Give the Gift of Financial Confidence

This year, skip the socks and sweaters — give your teen something even better: financial confidence.

The holidays are the perfect time to discuss money in a real, hands-on way. Whether your teen just started their first job, is saving up for something big, or simply loves holiday shopping, it’s a great season to teach smart spending and saving habits that will stick.

Here are a few simple ways to get started:

Set a holiday budget together. Talk through expected expenses like gifts, outings, or charitable donations, and decide how much to spend in each area. It’s a great way to teach planning and prioritization.

Discuss saving and giving goals. Encourage your teen to set aside a portion of their earnings or gift money for future goals or causes they care about.

Let them take the lead. Give them some independence by letting them track their spending, make small purchase decisions, or compare prices online. A little responsibility now can go a long way toward building confidence later.

When teens learn how to handle money early, they gain skills that last long after the decorations come down.

This season, give more than presents — give your teen the tools and mindset to handle money wisely. At Landings Credit Union, we’re here to support families at every stage of their financial journey, helping you and your loved ones make smart, confident choices that last well beyond the holidays.
