Tempe, AZ September 2016 – On Thursday, September 29th, Landings Credit Union along with officials from the Mesa Chamber of Commerce and the East Valley Institute of Technology officially cut the ribbon and launched an amazing partnership opening the first student run branch in the East Valley.
Some of the dignitaries that attended and spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony included EVIT Superintendent, Dr. Sally Downey, Assistant Superintendent, David Schapira, and Mesa City Councilman Kevin Thompson. Margaret Hunnicutt, President and CEO of Landings Credit Union spoke as well stating, “as the leader of an organization that has built its reputation and business by being a strong community partner and a supporter of education, we value the opportunity to partner with EVIT. We share common goals of impacting students in the classroom to prepare them to be “workforce ready”. EVIT provides a great platform combining education and training to produce our future workers.”
The new banking program is a partnership between Landings Credit Union and EVIT and incorporates Landings' employees and all of the banking services that Landings offers, but will also be a teaching and training branch for both Landings employees and EVIT students. With this new partnership, Landings and EVIT will offer a brand new banking program as part of the EVIT career readiness program of study. This new program will give students who are interested in banking as a career a new option as part of their course curriculum. Students will receive occupational training in a variety of areas including skills to become a teller, loan officer, call center representative, and other positions throughout the banking industry. They will also receive hands-on training in cash handling, marketing, and running a full service student branch.
