Margaret Hunnicutt Announces Retirement from Landings Credit Union; Brian Lee To Serve as next CEO

Landings Credit Union announced that Margaret Hunnicutt, its President and CEO, has decided to retire effective January 3, 2020. Brian Lee, current Chief Financial Officer at Landings CU, will serve as CEO upon Hunnicutt’s retirement.

Chairman of the Board Bill Hegebush said, “It is hard to say goodbye to a strong leader, especially one who is able to meld the needs of our members, staff and community into a successful organization.  She has truly been a leader who lives the Credit Union motto of ‘people helping people’.”

Hunnicutt has served in her current role since March 2008, and prior to that, served for seven years as Chief Financial Officer. During Hunnicutt’s tenure as CEO, the Credit Union weathered the storm of the economic recession, transitioned to its current name and rebrand, furthered its mission as a community partner and returned to a position of financial strength. Additionally, Landings Credit Union has been recognized over the past decade with multiple awards including Business Excellence Award winner, Best Places to Work, Best Credit Union to Work For and Credit Union of the Year.

Hunnicutt has been heavily involved with local education and community-based organizations during her 18 years at Landings CU. She personifies the Credit Union’s mission with her efforts and involvement in many community projects, boards and committees. Hunnicutt has served on the Boards for the Tempe Community Council, Tempe Chamber of Commerce, Tempe Community Foundation, Tempe Community Action Agency, Newtown Community Development Corporation and Tempe Union HS District Education Foundation. She is a member of Kiwanis Club of Tempe and the Executive Women’s Golf Association. She was the driving force behind the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for Tempe Community Council for more than ten years. She is the treasurer for the Tempe Elementary School District PAC for the upcoming bond and override election. Margaret donates more than 200 volunteer hours each year to various programs.

Hunnicutt is a graduate of the Valley Leadership and Tempe Leadership programs. She has won numerous awards throughout her career including Credit Union Professional of the Year, Tempe Chamber Business Woman of the Year and Tempe Leadership’s Outstanding Community Leadership Award.
